Jan (The Box & Hounds)

Whats in Jans Box One of the funniest and most entertaining features on the show. This feature came about when Jan brought her box to a pub shed meet up in Watford and started pulling numerous beers out of it. Now on the show Andy, Dave and other guests have to guess what random pub shed/garden item is in Jans Box, in just 20 guesses with only yes or no answers (and sometimes some dodgy unhelpful clues from Jimbo) Anything of any size could be in Jans Box!

Location: Havant, Hampshire.

Pub Shed info: 14 by 7 feet. Patriotic GB flags. Up-cycled materials

Favourite Beer Style: Double IPAs

The Song Request Courtroom

In most episodes you will hear this popular feature. Each week we ask listeners on Instagram to send us songs that link to a particular theme. The songs are curated in a list and put onto a form which listeners acting as "the jury" can then give a score to out of 10. We play the songs each week during the show and for the final part of the episode we open "The Song Request Courtroom" where one (or sometimes more) of our judges give them their final rating out of 10 alongside the announcement of the jury score. Listeners who score a 10 enter the 10/10 club and some who score ten 10/10 scores will progress to the "Song Request House of Lords" alongside Judge Pat (the Patriot Lockdown Bar) who was the first to achieve such a feat.

Song Request Courtroom Sponsors

The Pig & The Quill - Seira Nevada, California.

The Pig & The Quill pub shed/home bar kindly offered to donate some money to the podcast to help us improve our recording equipment which included microphones for our regular contributers and song request judges, which has made a huge difference. The Pig & The Quill are big fans of the courtroom so to thank them for their donation we made them our song request courtroom sponsors.

The Judges

Judge John (Head Judge)

John is the Head Judge. He is our very own Len Goodman. He can be hard to please and very unpredictable in his music taste. John was Jimbo's radio sidekick on a local radio station, Penistone FM for nearly 10 years which is where the song request courtroom first began (as the ABC) Anything But Chart hour. John joined Jimbo on the podcast in Spring 2021 and the Song Request Courtroom was reborn and became even more popular than ever before. John is a hard working taxi driver and a proper Barnsley man. Despite his sometimes grumpy judge act, he is a loveable, likeable friendly chap, guaranteed to put a smile on your face and sometimes even a tear in your eye.

Judge Pat
(Patriot Lockdown Bar)

Martyn of the Patriot Lockdown Bar joined the show as a Judge in late 2021 after listening and falling in love with the song request courtroom feature on the show, before that he was a regular song requester and had many 10/10 scores to his name already. Judge Pat is the king of innuendo and you can guarantee rude jokes and edgy comedy when its his turn in the courtroom. Pat has an eclectic taste in music and can enjoy most genres and artists however sometimes a song can rub him up the wrong way and you'll end up "sniffing his drip tray" with a low score.

Pat was the first person to achieve ten 10/10 scores as a listener and was therefore inducted into the "Song Request House of Lords". Now instead of choosing songs, if he isn't the judge he picks out his "Judge Pat Pick of the Week" from all of the listeners suggestions which isn't necessarily a 10/10 song but a song that is a particular favourite of Pats giving listeners another accolade to aim for each week!

Judge Pat now also has his own YouTube pop quiz with home bar owners/beer lovers going head to head in each episode. Find these on YouTube!

Judge Peggy
(The Ashmore Arms)

Sharon of the Ashmore Arms joined the show as a Judge for the Halloween episode in 2022. Sharon teased Jimbo, the judges and the listeners for months using the Song Request Courtroom Jury form, naming herself as head of the jury and leaving scores and cryptic messages about her identity under name of "Judge Peggy" (a reference to famous landlady Peggy Mitchell. There was a period of finger pointing and Instagram polls as people tried to work out who she was until eventually her identity was finally revealed on the Halloween show as our first female judge. Peggy is a fine representative for the women of the pub shed, home bar and beer lover community and also is a popular judge amongst listeners, many of who received their first 10/10 from Peggy after failing to do so with the other judges.

Location: Dukinfield (near Manchester)
